Why we are happier on vacation – and how to stay happy

Let’s admit it: when we are on vacation, we are not the same people. We become a better version of ourselves – kind of like an upgrade, which has all the annoying little quirks that we don’t like removed. As soon as we get back, however, we fall back into our old patterns. It seems like we leave all the good features from the upgrade at the check-in and pick up the flaws with our luggage: we start grouching again, we are depressed and lethargic, strangers become enemies and we go back to our every-day routine yet we are not motivated to do any kind of activities because it’s much easier to check Facebook and Instagram every 5 minutes.

As I usually feel really frustrated after vacations, I thought about some things I do differently when I am on vacation and wanted to share them with you:

Keep smiling.

Just the fact that we are on vacation makes us happy. Even if something (or someone) annoys us, we tend to ignore it because we’re on vacation and we don’t want to be angry or sad – and it works quite well, doesn’t it?

Just because you can check Facebook doesn’t mean you have to.

Wasn’t it such a relief to not have Wi-Fi (or Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, WhatsApp) and actually talk to each other in bars and restaurants? (I’m actually pointing at myself)

Be tanned and have beach curls.

Ok, some things might be exclusive to vacations after all.

Plan fun things.

As time is always a scarce resource when on vacation, we make rough plans and stick to them so we do all the things we want to do. Back home, we should make time for things we like and want to do more often rather than only focusing on what we have to do.

Talk to strangers.

Do you wonder why we meet much more people when we’re abroad? It might be because we leave our arrogant b*tch-face at home (yes, me too) and don’t think that everybody we don’t know is a potential murderer.

Eat, drink, go out.

Whoever says that eating is not the best thing in this world is a barefaced liar – especially if the food is accompanied by good drinks, and even more when you’re surrounded by good friends. So, rather than spending our time and money in jam-packed clubs with arrogant b*tch-faces (again: yes, I belong to that species), my friends and I decided to start a culinary trip in Vienna to explore different cuisines.

What helps you to keep the good attitude when we come back home? I’d love to hear if you have any small rituals or tips!

Sacuvajte tamnu boju koze i prirodno kovrcavu kosu.

Neke stvari mozda ipak nije moguce odvojiti od odmora.

Planirajte zabavne stvari.

Voljela bih cuti vase savjete!
