6 ways to always have money

At the end of the money, there is still so much month left – we’ve all been there.
It’s always the same routine: your paycheck comes, you go straight to the shopping mall, pick a nice restaurant to for dinner and party like there’s no tomorrow. You feel like the king of the world… until the 15th comes and you realize that for the rest of the month you will have to turn around every penny a couple of times. That’s the point when you take a vow that this won’t ever happen again. Until, one month later, you find yourself in the same situation and start cursing your friends who ask you to go out with them.
Having been there myself and by working in a bank, I figured out the biggest traps and summed them up for you. Here are 6 simple tips that will help you keep control of your finances.

1. make a list of fixed expenses.
Rent, phone bill, insurance, credit cards – all those costs come every month and we tend to simply forget about them. If you can choose the day of the payment, choose the day after your paycheck. That way, you will know how much you have left and you won’t have to think about it for the rest of the month.

2. hold your credit card on a very short leash.
Credit cards are great. You buy that amazing purse and are as rich as before (even richer, considering that you can call yourself the owner of that amazing purse).
There is only one downer: you have to pay eventually. Mostly you won’t even remember what you have bought when your Visa statement comes and you’ll ask yourself where the hell your money is.
Credit cards have already caused quite a few headaches but there is no need for drastic measures like cutting them in half. The best way to keep it under control is to simply leave it at home. That way you will only use it when you need it, eg. when shopping online or booking your next trip.

3. do not overrun your purchase limit.
“It’s just € 50, my salary comes in a couple of days anyways…” Sounds familiar? If it does, slap yourself every time it crosses your mind. It might sound like it’s no biggy. But this habit gets out of control easily and before you even realize it, you are having troubles paying even the interests.
If you have a limit, minimize it or get rid of it. Do it now, thank me later.

4. keep track of your expenses.
If you have no idea where your money goes, it’s very hard to cut down your spendings. It will help you big time if you (roughly) know how much you spend for food, going out, shopping etc. Once you know that you spend about € 200 a month just for grabbing an afterwork-drink (that’s my case), you’ll know that that’s where you need to moderate your expenses.

5. have some savings for emergency.
Every month, put a small amount on your savings account. A rule of thumb is to have at least triple of your monthly income ready in case your water breaks or you have to lend your friend some money to go on vacation with you. (Picture yourself saying “no problem, how much you need?”. You’ll feel like Tony Montana, promise.)

6. let’s be honest, we’re not rich.
“Beats are so cool, I need them!” Media constantly create a need for things that we actually do not need at all. Living in the era of consumption, it’s getting more and more difficult to say no to Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton etc. but let’s face it: we are not rich and it’s totally okay if we can’t afford a fancy designer purse. And seriously, do you really want to have the same bag everybody has and pay € 300 for crappy headphones? I don’t.

How do you keep your money under control? I’d like to hear your tips!

Kupis to divnu torbu i a isto si bogat kao i prije (cak i bogatij, jer si sad vlasnik divne torbe).

Voljela bih cuti tvoje savjete!
